Manuscript Completed: May 2003 Date Published: August 2003. Antonescu, NRC Project Manager Prepared for: Division of Engineering Technology Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 NRC Job Code Y6272. Oak Ridge National Laboratory has been involved in aiding the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, in developing the technological basis for regulatory assistance on EMI/RFI resistance and power rise endure ability. Previous research efforts have supplied suggestions on electro-magnetic compatibility design and installation practices, the recommendation of EMI/RFI and SWC test standards and test methods, the determination of ambient electromagnetic conditions at nuclear power plants, and the development of recommended electro-magnetic operating envelopes applicable to locations where safety-related I&C systems will be installed. Protection of signal line vulnerability was determined as an open issue in previous research on establishing the technical basis for EMI/RFI and SWC in safety-related I&C systems.
