Galatasaray Spor Kulubu, also know as Galatasaray, is a Turkish professional Football Club based on the European side of the city of Istanbul in Turkey. It is the association Football branch of the larger Galatasaray Sports Club, itself part of the Galatasaray Community Cooperation Committee which includes the prestigious Lycee de Galatasaray, where Football Club was founded in October 1905 consisting entirely of student members. Galatasaray is the most successful Turkish football club. They have won 7 domestic trophies, including 20 Super Lig titles, 17 Turkish Cups and 13 Turkish Super Cups. It is one of three teams to have participated in all seasons of the Turkish Super Lig since 1959, following the dissolution of Istanbul Football League, and are the only club to have won the Super Lig in four successive seasons. Internationally, Galatasaray won the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup in 2000, becoming the first and only Turkish team to win a major UEFA competition. In the 1999-2000 season, club achieved the rare feat of completing a quadruple by winning the Turkish Super Lig, Turkish Cup, UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup in a single season. Galatasaray is also the only Turkish club to have been ranked 1 in the IFFHS World Rankings. Since 2011, Club's Stadium is 52 652 capacity Turk Telekom Arena in Seyrantepe, Istanbul. Previously, Club had played at Ali Sami Yen Stadium, as well as a succession of other grounds in Istanbul, which include groundshares with Besiktas and Fenerbahce at Taksim Stadium and Inonu Stadium. The club has a long-standing rivalry with other major Istanbul teams, namely with Besiktas and Fenerbahce. The Derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce is dubbed Ktalar Aras Derbi due to the location of their headquarters and stadiums on the European and Asian sides of the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul. As result of the team's twentieth championship for the 2014-15 season of Super Lig, their logo hereafter contains 4 stars representing their 20 championships in the League. Each star corresponds to the team's 5 championships.

Grounds

When Manchester unite traveled to play Galatasaray in the Champions League in 1993, they arrived to be greeted by a number of banners, most famous of which declare Welcome To Hell. That is the image that many English fans have of Turkish clubs Stadium, which is often vociferous in its support of the home team and violently opposes the idea of the away team doing well. It is, to coin phrase, famous for its intimidating atmosphere. Of course, Turk Telekom Stadium wasnt venue unite had to travel to, given that it was only opened in 2011. Not that that means it is all that much less intimidating for visiting supporters, of course. Galatasaray might not be the same force that they were in the past, but they are still good enough to mean that few teams are excited about drawing them in the Champions League or Europa League. Indeed, they are the most successful team in Turkey and are one of just three sides that have taken part in the Super Lig every season since its creation in 1959. In 2000, they became the only Turkish club to date to win a major UEFA trophy when they lifted both the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

Support

The big three clubs of Istanbul-Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray-have century-long history of rivalry. The Galatasaray-Fenerbahce rivalry is the primary Istanbul derby and the most important rivalry in Turkish Football. Rivalry poses symbolic importance to supporters due to the assumed superiority that comes with winning a derby. Supporters are often quoted as stating that winning a league without winning a derby is hollow. There is always huge interest in Derby due to its fierce nature on and off the pitch. Many documentaries have been made about derby, including episode of Real Football Factories International. Rivalry has lead to violence among supporters on numerous occasions, though this has been on decline in recent years. Typical features of derby days include sell out stadiums, loud support throughout the match and taunting choreography displayed by supporters before kick off. Other top level Istanbul derbies include teams; Istanbul BB and Kasmpasa, although these teams pose minor rivalry as history and nationwide attention to derbies among big three is unmatched. Torches, smoke, drums, flags and giant posters are used to create visual grandeur and apply psychological pressure on visiting teams, which fans call welcoming them to hell.

Galatasaray SK

With the aim of raising awareness of children's rights, Galatasaray started cooperating with UNICEF, first one of its kind in Turkey. Galatasaray see it as their responsibility to invest in today's children, thereby making sure that fans and athletes are able to find their place in society. Through UNICEF cooperation, Galatasaray aims at helping children, including those who had to fly to their countries and find themselves separate from their homes. Galatasaray aims at reaching out to the most disadvantaged groups of society, thereby, in particular, considering children and youth. Also, first team players Galatasaray are showing their support, visiting hospitals, sending jerseys and inviting disadvantaged people to games and training sessions. Club Galatasaray aim to keep their club as inclusive as possible and always welcome disadvantaged people as victims of disasters, families and, among others, families of martyred soldiers. The possibility to escort players on field before a match has shown to be a great way to reach out to society and to create a very special moment for people who feel excluded from society. For years, kids in Turkey snuck into stadiums without tickets to watch matches next to their fathers in the stands. What take played throughout the 20th century also not change with the start of the new millennium. Children keep being ignore, even when clubs start sanctioning conduct and reorganise stands in way that children are in stands together with women. However, in season 2016 / 2017, Galatasaray took action after society was reminded that children are entitled to the same rights as adults are. From the 2016 / 2017 season, Galatasaray reserves 1500 season tickets on the northeast stand for children. Next to that, children that are linked to Society for Protection of Children, certain NGO, Galatasaray Sports Academy, Nefs Education Foundation and children of martyred soldiers are able to enter the stadium free of charge. Children are able to enjoy matches throughout the season in their own stand, together with their guardian.
