Haemophilus Infections

Summarized by Plex Health
Last Updated: 02 May 2022

Haemophilus is the name of a group of germs. Your child can get Hib disease by being around other children or adults who may have the bacteria and not know it. If the bacteria stay in the child's nose and throat, the child possibly will not get sick. However in some cases the bacteria spread into the lungs or the bloodstream, and then Hib can cause severe issues such as meningitis and pneumonia. All children younger than 5 years old should be immunized with the Hib vaccine.
