Leave 4 Dead is a singleplayer-and multiplayer-cooperative survival horror FPS game developed by Valve Corporation and Turtle Rock Studios. The game was built using the Source engine and is available on PC and Xbox 360. During early development, its working title was Terror Strike. The game put four human playable or AI-control Survivors of an apocalyptic pandemic against Hordes of Infected. Regular infect are controlled by game AI, while human players can control up to four mutate Special infect with special abilities in Versus mode. The goal of Left 4 Dead for Survivors is to help each other make it through level to safety. Infected players must cooperate to stop them. Basic gameplay never changes from map to map, so players will learn their way around fairly quickly. The Director keeps things from getting monotonous, however, by throwing in different challenges at every level. No two playthroughs are exactly alike.

Campaigns are grouped sets of environments used for gameplay in Left 4 Dead and leave 4 Dead 2. Campaigns are aesthetically present as if they are individual zombie movies, complete with poster on the loading screen for each one, and usually consist of several chapters. Chapters are typically played in order, following narrative in which survivors travel from the start point in the midst of zombie apocalypse to the end point where rescue vehicle to safety awaits, surviving an onslaught of infect as they go. The exact process of experiencing the campaign's content depends on the gameplay mode being play, with some modes utilising single chapters of campaign for each game rather than progressing from one chapter to the next. Leave 4 Dead was initially released with four campaigns, while Left 4 Dead 2 was initially released with five campaigns, with both games receiving additional downloadable campaigns after release. On Steam, downloadable campaigns are added to games as free updates and are playable simply by purchasing and installing games. On Xbox 360, downloadable campaigns must be purchased and manually downloaded from Xbox Live Marketplace. The majority of official campaigns encompass larger narrative when played in a particular order, but this is not enforced by game. The Director-base gameplay of Left 4 Dead games encourages players to enjoy any campaign multiple times. On the PC version of the game, custom community-make campaigns are also support, which may vary in their structure compared to official campaigns.
Leave 4 Dead 2 currently has fourteen Campaigns playable in all gameplay modes, six of which are from the original Leave 4 Dead and two of which are non-canon Campaigns developed with assistance from the fan community See below in Downloadable Campaigns. Dead Center in Savannah, Georgia, four complete strangers find themselves caught up in the chaos of a recent outbreak of deadly infection currently sweeping across the United States. Just missing the last evacuation helicopter, they are forced to band together and head to the next known evacuation Center in mall. Survivors shoot their way down through burning hotel and through infect-swarm city streets to the nearby shopping mall, where they find it overridden with zombies. With no other alternatives, they hope to use a famous race car being exhibited there to make their escape. Passing See below in Downloadable Campaigns. Dark Carnival Upon finding the freeway out of Savannah blocked by abandoned cars, survivors were forced to leave their vehicles and make their way on foot to nearby Whispering Oaks amusement park, still partially operational and crawling with Infected. As patrolling rescue helicopter circles overhead, survivors must make their way down park's midway, through Tunnel of Love, over tracks of rollercoaster, and past exhibition barns to reach the park's stadium, where pyrotechnics display of rock concert stage provide them with their only means of signaling chopper pilot for help. Swamp Fever Unfortunately for the survivors, helicopter pilot that rescued them from Whispering Oaks succumb to infection, and they are forced to kill him and crash-land chopper in Mississippi bayou. Finding evidence that rescue may be waiting deeper in the Swamp, survivors must trek through an abandoned alligator farm, airliner crash site, and ramshackle shantytown where local swampfolk make their Last Stand against infect. Eventually, they reach a giant plantation house, where they must hold off relentless hordes of infect until a kind skipper named Virgil arrives With rescue boat to take them to a rumored safe zone in New Orleans, Louisiana. Hard Rain As the evening sun begins to set, survivors learn that their rescue boat doesn't have enough fuel to reach New Orleans. Virgil drops them off in the derelict town of Ducatel, Mississippi to look for more fuel. Their situation is further complicated by forgetting to bring signal flares to indicate that they have retrieved fuel, as well as the sudden onset of torrential downpour, first sign of an incoming hurricane. Survivors must move through suburban streets teeming with infected and half-demolish, Witch-infest sugar mills to reach the gas station. After obtaining fuel, they must then make their way back through the sugar mill and town, both now flooded by the storm, to return to the dock, signal Virgil With illuminated sign from nearby Burger Tank, and escape before the full force of the storm hit them.

Play Single Player offline game with computer-control teammates. Available in Left 4 Dead and leave 4 Dead 2 Single Player is a gameplay mode with only one player controlling character. The player assumes control of one of the survivors, and all other characters are AI control. No other player can join single player game, unless locally, via connect host local ip console command. Other than that, same rules as Campaign apply here, except for in Dead Center, or Passing where you only have to get 8 gas cans in Solo Dead Center and 10 in Solo Passing. Single Player is the only mode which can be played with Steam set to offline.$MERGE_SPACE Since Single Player is considered as local server, modifications that work only on local server will also work in this mode. This is also the only mode that allows you to fully pause the game. In other modes, this can only be done when playing as host on a local server with command sv_pausable 1. The image is Ellis holding Krieg 552, weapon from the German censor version of the game, which became available for everyone in Last Stand Community Update. Fun fact: image and weapon do / do not exist in international version at same time. In singleplayer, if you get killed in Campaign, chapter will restart since bots don't use defibrillators. Also, if you complete the campaign with everyone surviving, it will say the survivors have escaped. Or in memory of if player escapes but bots fail. The only time a Campaign can be complete with a player dying as a result is the Port Finale of Sacrifice Campaign, as bots won't go and restart the generator and therefore, player's death won't fail the Campaign for balancing reasons. In Split Screen, two players on the same console take control over two Survivors, and the screen is Split vertically, although it can be changed to horizontal in the options menu. Two players can also play online while using Split Screen. This game mode is normally exclusive to the Xbox 360 version of Left 4 Dead and leave 4 Dead 2, but may be accessed in PC versions if you have a controller for second Player and modify some files or use mods. Here is a guide to how to play splitscreen on a PC. Plugging the Xbox controller in and out during loading Screen is not the only way to set the Xbox controller to Player 2. During gameplay, you can also unplug and plug the Xbox controller back in within one second to set the controller to Player 2. In fact, second method proves to be more effective with several people.
Leave 4 Dead currently has six official Campaigns playable in Campaign and Versus, with the seventh only available in Survival. At least one additional Campaign was planned and partially developed, but ultimately was canceled and not officially released as content for the game. See below in Cut Campaigns. No Mercy in Fairfield, After narrow escape from infect, survivors focus on moving towards Hospital for evacuation by passing News 5 helicopter. Survivors move from apartment building to subway station, then sewer, then Mercy Hospital, before arriving at Rooftop Finale. Crash Course See below in Downloadable Campaigns. Death Toll Survivors have finally made it to the Riverside. Due to pathway block on abandon highway, survivors follow the drainage system of Riverside, go to church, traverse town of Riverside, and finally arrive at the boathouse on the riverbank. There, survivors wait for rescue by civilian fishing boat. Dead Air With Survivors strand in a large greenhouse full of infect, they witness a plane fly by overhead. Deciding the best way to escape the city is via airport, they make their way through the metropolitan area, over rooftops, construction site, Air station terminal, and finally, Last Stand at Runway Finale. There, survivors see a C-130 Hercules plane that has run out of fuel, and needs help refueling. Blood Harvest lose in the middle of thick forest, Survivors follow path to the trainyard, and through repair warehouse. Following railway lines, they move past bridge, train station, and finally to Farmhouse Finale. With nobody in sight, survivors call via radio to military, and from there, wait for armored personnel carrier to pick them up. But in the meantime, infect have discovered their location. Once each level in the campaign is complete, players are presented with several awards. These awards are purely cosmetic and do not affect gameplay. Only the most relevant will be show. General Defense kills Most Infected. Tank Slayers do Most Damage to Tank. Least Damage take take least amount of damage. Protectors protect most teammates. Witch Hunter does Most Damage to Witch. Headhunter gets most headshots. A Special Killer kills Most Special Infected. In Left 4 Dead, this is only show if there were no tanks or witches in the chapter. Most Careful Teammate Lowest friendly fire incidents. The Total Damage does Most Damage to Survivors. The Boomer Damage do most damage as boomer. Hunter Damage does most damage as a hunter. Smoker Damage do most damage as smoker. Hunter Pounces pounce Most Survivors. Tank Punches punch Most Survivors. Most Vomit-Vomit on Most Survivors. Survivor Drags drag Most Survivors. These awards can only be found in Left 4 Dead 2. All leave 4 Dead awards may still be shown based on relevance. Melee Fighter-Most kills with Melee weapon Spitter Damage-do most Damage as Spitter. Charger Damage-do Most Damage as a Charger. Longest Jockey Ride-longest amount of time Jockey rode single Survivor. Longest Tongue Pull-The longest amount of time Smoker Pull single Survivor. Note: this replaces the previous Smoker Damage award.
Despite taking place in previous locations seen in Left 4 Dead and leave 4 Dead 2, main characters of game were changed to fit better with the Japanese audience. Furthermore, every other character has received a new voice actor, including Leave 4 Dead, original Survivors, and NPCs in Japanese language. Notably, new characters are younger and wear more casual clothing. Players are able to play as two Asian teenagers who were visiting America when the outbreak begin, elder woman who was their Tour Guide and bartender of Vannah. Unlike two original survivors from both games, Arcade Survivors were given full names. The game ends with one of the survivors sacrificing himself / herself, as the last level is the Port version of Sacrifice. However, canonicity of the final level is debatable since there is a ported version of Passing as well, with Bill's death. Judging by the disconnected order of campaigns, it is quite possible that each campaign of game takes place on a separate timeline rather than being continuation.
Leave 4 Dead Wiki is a Wiki dedicated to survival horror first-person shooter Leave 4 Dead, created by Valve Corporation, which was released on November 18 2008 for PC and Xbox 360. Leave 4 Dead takes place in several places surrounding Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A mutated strain of rabies virus has struck humanity, creating a zombie apocalypse though the infected are not actually dead. There are six variants of Infected, with Common Infected being the least mutate; Common infect, Hunter, Smoker, Boomer, Witch, and Tank. From chaos, four survivors band together in an attempt to escape relentless infection. The sequel, known simply as Left 4 Dead 2, was announced on June 1 2009 at Microsoft's press conference at E3 '09. It is due to be released on November 17 2009, day before Leave 4 Dead's one year anniversary. Among other things, it will include new survivors, both new and old infect, weapons, completely new location, and link campaigns. In meanwhile, leave 4 Dead Wiki will be making its best collective effort to keep itself updated with the latest news about upcoming game, while still reading and refining its old articles about Left 4 Dead, just as Valve has promised to continue updating Left 4 Dead after Left 4 Dead 2 is release. Wiki was found in May of 2008 by ShadoW. Its ultimate goal is to be the most complete source of information about leave 4 Dead that anyone can edit.

Each scenario, or movie, is divided into five sub-scenarios, showcasing desperate push from one safe house to another, fighting off hordes of ferocious infect. In the first sub-scenario, for example, survivors must make their way to the streets below and into the subway system where there is safehouse, where they may recuperate and re-arm before making their way to the next safehouse. Each campaign ends with what's called finale, where players must hold out against hundreds of charging infect while awaiting rescue. Players have unlimited time to gather Up supplies and figure out a plan before starting the finale, which is done by contacting rescue vehicle through radio. There are four difficulties to choose from: Easy, Normal, Advanced and Expert. Higher difficulties make infected do more damage, give Special infect more health, and make AI Directors spawn more infected and fewer power-ups. Past Easy, friendly fire came into effect and became more dangerous until Expert where it can down teammate in one hit. The combination of severe accident penalties and Infected hordes dealing 20 damage per hit guarantees that only the most experienced of players survive on Expert. Multiple visual in-game hints, including license plates, park signs, and markings on airplane equipment, imply that these locations are in Pennsylvania. Following is a list and description of 4 campaigns as well as Crash Course and Sacrifice: No Mercy-Survivors must make their way from the rooftop of an apartment building, through the subway system, down into sewers, and then fight their way through the Hospital in order to reach the helicopter pad on top of the Hospital's roof. Death Toll-urban woodland map where survivors must find a boathouse and wait for evacuation by boat. Dead Air-Survivors make their way across rooftops before going through the airport with hope of being rescued by plane. Blood Harvest-Survivors head to what they think is a military outpost only to find out it is abandon. They must wait until the military comes back to rescue them. Crash Course-After helicopter Survivors escape from No Mercy crash, survivors are forced to walk on foot to the truck depot to escape. Sacrifice-Also included as L4D2 DLC, Sacrifice takes place shortly after L4D2 Campaign, crossing. Players must cross small inlets, to get to their escape point. Survivors must collect fuel for the cargo elevator in order to escape. One survivor is forced to suicide as the generator jams and must be activated manually in the middle of the horde. Aside from Normal Campaign Mode where only Survivors are playable characters, there is also Versus Mode. In this Mode human control players can play as Advanced zombie mutations, know as Special infect, which come in four types: Boomers, Hunters, Smokers, or Tanks; latter of which will spawn only a few times during the game.
|Mounted Machine Gun||A heavy duty weapon which is mounted and controlled by one person at a time. It has unlimited ammo but will overheat if fired for too long. It can only shoot in front from left to right so the Survivor operating it is vulnerable to attacks from behind if not protected. It is usually found at "crescendo events" which force the Survivors to defend themselves against the Infected for a certain period of time.|

|Pistol||A simple pistol. You always start out with it and it has unlimited ammunition. It holds 15 round per magazine|
|Dual Pistols||Hold two pistols means twice the amount of bullets and firepower. You can fire them as fast as you can pull the trigger. Dual pistols have 30 rounds. The reload speed is twice as long as one pistol.|
|Uzi||Fast rate of fire and fairly accurate, but a little weak. Best used for medium distance to short distance. Holds 50 bullets at once. You can carry 480 rounds. It may seem like a lot of ammo, but you'll soon realize that bullets go fast.|
|Shotgun||Slow rate of fire, wide burst and powerful blasts. Best used in close quarters against multiple infected. Holds 8 shells at once and you can carry a total of 128 shells.|
|Automatic Shotgun||More powerful than the regular shotgun and shoots at a much faster rate. Holds 10 shells at once and you can carry a total of 128 shells. Great for clearing out rooms of Infected|
|Assault Rifle||Very high rate of fire and is accurate at long range when standing still. It holds 50 rounds per magazine and you can carry a total of 360 rounds. The assault rifle burns through ammo very fast, forcing the player to make shots count rather than spraying in every direction.|
|Hunting Rifle||Has a scope. Kills regular zombies in a single shot and shots have bullet penetration, meaning that it's possible to kill multiple zombies in a single shot if they're lined up in a row. Holds 15 rounds per magazine and you can carry a total of 180 rounds.|
|Pipe Bomb||The pipe bomb is a home made weapon that has a simple smoke detector attached to it. When thrown, the pipe bomb emits a beeping sound that attracts zombies. Using a pipe bomb is a good strategy to distract zombies if a player has been vomited on by a Boomer or if the team is overwhelmed. The pipe bomb explodes after a set amount of time once thrown.|
|Molotov||A molotov cocktail that sets an area on fire. This fire damages both Survivors and zombies and they will continue to burn in flames for a while after leaving the area of effect. The molotov explodes on impact when thrown but can bounce off walls.|
|Gasoline Container||The gas container is like a bigger, meaner version of the Molotov cocktail. It has a wider area of effect and lasts much longer. Be very careful when placing these because you can easily and unintentionally light your companions on fire if it gets caught in the crossfire. These are best used on the final chapters of each level because the zombies will just run into the fire if you are able to place them in their path towards you.|
|Propane Tank||The propane tank explodes when shot and has a rather large area of effect. Best used against large clumps of Infected|
|Oxygen Tank||Similar to the propane tank, but when shot it leaks a but of oxygen before exploding. Essentially on a timed fuse.|
|Tagline||"Hell came to Earth. These four are gonna send it back."|
|Chapters||The Turnpike The Drains The Church The Town Boathouse Finale|
Developer Commentary is an extra Mode in Left 4 Dead. In it, players are able to listen to audio comments made by developers, while they play through Campaign in the game with significant lack of difficulty, as all infect will ignore the player and only attack AI Bot Survivors. The Mode takes place in No Mercy with icons called Commentary Nodes throughout the Campaign, which trigger specific audio comments when the player presses use key while looking at an icon. Some Commentary Nodes, when activate, will spawn objects, characters, and even script events. Though there are enemies in the game, there are No Special Infected unless the Player has spawn them by node, and common infect generally ignore the Player as mention until Finale. If all of the AI Bots are dead, spawn special infect will target the Player. Due to this, no achievements may be earn, but it is a way of practicing a number of skills. No Mercy Finale in Left 4 Dead Commentary Mode seems to be glitched. Quite often, player will answer the radio on the rooftop and the second time the radio is supposed to be answer, radio will not light up and cannot be interacted with, thereby making it impossible to start the Finale. Restarting Last Chapter seems to usually fix the problem.

Zoey's unique animations WERE restored in the remake in response TO myriad OF harsh, negative comments on forums regarding her animations as though she WERE Rochelle. Scene transition and event dialog remain unchanged; Survivors speak their campaign exclusive lines normally as in the original version. An interesting feature of the remake is that it COME with updated talker files for original Survivors, which in turn have fixed notable issues experienced in-game prior to TO campaign's release, such as Survivors being silent upon spotting pills, first-aid kits, grenade-type items, among others. Along with this update, Survivors now RE-use lines upon being targeted by Spitter, Jockey and Charger as opposed TO using their respective pain SOUND prior TO update. Originally, Church Guy just vanished after the Crescendo Event at Church. With the release OF update HE can transform again, but STILL only into either Boomer, Hunter or Smoker.

Can everyone stop second I'm gonna heal! Zoey now don't waste this by getting pounced on or something. Nick's First Aid Kit, colloquially know as med Kit or Health pack, is used to heal damage survivors take during the campaign. When carried by survivors, it is held on like a backpack with no visible straps holding it. First Aid Kits are vital to survival, as they bring players from incredibly wound to fully healed state. When a player is in a black-and-white situation, using First Aid Kit will restore the player's chances and bring them out of that state. First Aid Kits can always be found inside safe rooms, and during the finale of the campaign. First Aid cabinets can also possess Health Kits, but only if it is in a safe room or Finale. Hard Rain's Burger Tank and safe room leading to Sugar Mill will always contain Two Health Kits, even if they were open despite the campaign and Survivors stating otherwise. Outside of Parish in Park they are spawned on whim by the Director. Difficulty affects the Director's mood for First Aid Kits. If it detects survivor with low health, Director will generate Health Kits sporadically until that survivor's health is restore. If the whole team is low on health with limited healing, director will spawn more First Aid Kits. A maximum of 3 First Aid Kits can be spawned at same time in the First Aid cabinet if the whole team is hurt. On Expert, Pain Pills completely replace First Aid Kits. In Versus Mode, if players heal each other, Director will spawn more Health Kits within the map. Keep in mind, if you are the first team to play as Survivors, whatever Health Kits you cause Director to spawn will also be available to other team when it's their turn. This could be a hazard as an infected team could use it to their advantage when they become Survivors and learn locations of spawned Health Kits when dead or as ghosts in spawn Mode. In Left 4 Dead 2, player has choice to pick up a Defibrillator or Ammo Upgrades instead, which can be used to revive dead teammates or ignite / explode infected with special ammunition. In Passing, First Aid Kits can sometimes recover from defeat fall Survivor. It takes five seconds to use First Aid Kit to heal yourself or another survivor, during which you cannot defend yourself in any way. However, in Left 4 Dead 2, if you are under the effects of Adrenaline while healing yourself or another survivor, it will only take three seconds. Instead of restoring a set amount of health, First Aid Kits will only restore 80 % of the damage survivors have take. For example, if a survivor has 30 health, using First Aid Kit will add 56 % to the survivor's health, bringing the survivor to 86 % health.

Leave 4 Dead takes place in a cinematic apocalyptic setting filled with zombies. That being say, L4D follows pseudo-Counter-Strike: Source type weapon and bot navigation system. Reliability of navigation mesh holds the same weight of importance as Level Design itself and the two categories are inseparable. The pacing of the game is directed by AI called AI Director. The AI Director collects data about player state in real-time, consequently determining enemy placement / state and item placement / type in a procedural manner. It is capable of delivering a dramatic experience all by itself while flexible enough to be able to follow parameters given by the map designer. Your first goal before starting should be to think like a zombie. However, without idea that your goal is to kill survivors. Game heavily rely more on actual waves of zombies influence rather than players. Because of this, zombies can reach just about any height, if of course, there is a way to climb up to it. When thinking about the kind of environment you would like to design, consider the kind of situations players might find themselves in. Because no one has really lived actual zombie apocalypse, it's up to you to continually playtest through each of your areas to understand natural decisions any survivor may make. Waves of zombies are dynamically controlled in each section of your map, meaning any real area can be dangerous because of this. Leave 4 Dead excepts non-linearity because initially you are designing your map for two parties: Survivors and infect. A large factor in the design for Left 4 Dead maps is lighting. Lighting and environment cues are main ways level designers can guide players around the map, as well as giving mood and texture to the map. Original Leave 4 Dead maps use a lot of classic horror movie lighting techniques, and you will find that your map will look a lot more professional if you hold to these techniques as well. Low-angle lighting-Light sources are placed close to the ground so that shadows are cast upwards. Bright vs Dark-Players will naturally be attracted to light areas and deterrerd from dark areas, and designers can use this to their advantage. Stark contrast-A very bright area surrounded by darkness is a good way of attracting total attention, and sometimes triggering tunnel vision, High contrasts in light also give area more ominous feel. Remember that the game is based in a post-zombie-apocalyptic world, so electricity would be out and there would not be many well organised areas. A good rule of thumb is that if you can envision people working or living in an environment without worry, you probably haven't made it derelict enough. Although by same token, overcrowding areas can be detrimental to focus, and misleading or frustrating to player.Sss
Introduce fatigue to melee attack in versus mode. You will see a HUD display when your melee swing is cooling down. Boomer vomit will now pass through common infect address some surround sound detection issues fix rare crash when exiting Left4Dead on Windows Vista fix case where complete all expert campaigns achievement was not being rewarded correct issue where Windows base dedicate were sending spurious shutdown notifications to master causing them to delist temporarily fix dedicate servers not resetting versus team swap correctly-you could join dedicate server that had previous game that was swap and arrive on other team than what was select in lobby rename tags for sv_search_key to use key: in server tags instead of sv_search_key. This should help with issues of 63 character limit of server tags fix the occasional server crash related to voting.
The console is a feature of many games that can be used to change certain elements of a game. In Left 4 Dead and leave 4 Dead 2, it can be activated in the Options menu and then displayed by pressing the tilde key. Valve feature quick-type feature in their consoles that allows rapid entry of Commands. Note that the key used to access Developer Console may be different on non-u. S keyboard layouts; For example, standard UK keyboard layout uses tilde key. You may edit the config file within your game Directory directly. The file is located under < leave 4 Dead Installation Directory >- left4dead-> CFG-> config. CFG just open file with text-editor of your choice and adjust it to your needs. Another workaround for non-u. S keyboard layouts Finnish in particular is to switch to US keyboard layout, start game, open Console and type bind x toggleconsole, where x is whichever key you wish to bind command to, then switch back to your own language. If you can't open Console by changing keyboard layout, right click on Left 4 Dead 2 in Steam Library, click properties, click'set Launch Options. ' then type-Console in field.
