Isolate grey elves atop tall mountains may claim to be keepers of the deepest secrets of the realm-and as individuals, theyre right-but Tabaxi Grand Central Library and its International Guild of Barding has the greatest collection of knowledge in all material plane. Even if they do have the book youre looking for, you can be sure that if you ask, theyll find it somewhere in the world, dragonborns have their own god separate to dragons. Dragonborn broadly worship Idrilla, god of democracy, truth, Gold and protest. Idrilla is not as powerful as Bahamut or Tiamat, but has more influence over Madritor as they live amongst it-notably in mountainous forests east of Talimedire. It is common for most devout of dragonborn to take pilgrimage to Idrillas temple. Idrilla is a god usually worshipped when races such as humans or elves gradually evolve into dragonborn. Does any of this matter? I am writing whatever comes to mind with little care for how it all links together-thats problem for the future! The river is not current! River. Even if I try to keep consistency, I am going to end up retconning everything anyway, and tighter knit this world, harder it will be to retcon smaller details without changing the whole fabric. Writing is like making a quilt, you get squares first, then you sew them together. I think. I 've never made quilt but people always nod in agreement at this analogy. Does any of this matter? Yes, it fun! Nothing can matter more than fun! Lets start with the origin story for our must dungeony of creatures: dragons! I am planning on running this in D & D 5e, and since I 've never DMed before, I am gonna be taking a fair chunk of inspiration from forgotten realms. There are 10 kinds of dragon in modern day Madritor: 5 metallic, 5 chromatic. I kinda like the idea of really really ancient dragons that do actually look like modern dragons. Evolution bay bee. So maybe there were originally more / different kinds? Motif I want to use in this setting as that gods do actually create anything new, but rather influence already existing things. So in this world there is a bit of an inverse of something-law of thermodynamics: things tend towards order over time. Not everything in all cases, because nature is chaotic, so there is still evolution, but like theres balance between these forces. That being say, current colours of dragons are pretty organise to me-you get RGB and Black and White dragons, as well as bronze Silver and Gold. What if maybe these creatures were originally more naturally distinguish, and as they grow more sapient and some start worshipping gods, those gods start shaping dragons back. So in ancient times, there would be your average fantasy breeds like Norwegian Ridgebacks etc. But as gods intervene, they become Red dragons. With RGB dragons, my immediate thought is of the inverse set of dragons: Cyan, Magenta and Yellow.

Elves.

First of my humanoid races, it is wise for me to point out that nearly all humanoids have common ancestors in Madritor, with goliaths and dragonborn being the most notable exceptions. This is a rough story of the division of proto-elves into subraces that exist across Madritor. This is after the split between orcs and elves. The catalyst for these divisions occurred roughly 70 000 years ago. Elves were mighty and plentiful, but with widespread corruption, doom to fall. This fall came about when the highest echelons of society started sanctioning the source of immortality to only the upper class of elves. In their arrogance, high elves assume any rebellion to fail, as high elves worship-quite passively-celestial gods above them, and rely on their support. Without active and populous praise, celestial gods had grow weak, and rebellions topple high elf society in nearly all corners of Madritor. In battles, source of immortality was thought to be destroy. Group of elves who rise to power would later be known as drow. These early drow suggest we worship gods not of heavens above, but of darkness below. They hold monstrous power through their own gods for many years, until people of the lower classes organise their beliefs-not in gods of light or darkness, but of nature. These elves do not follow higher entities, but their own hearts and their connections to earth. This faith empowers them with magic enough to overcome drow. The Ensuing battle was violent and lasted decades. Violence starts to cease when high elves curse drow to be burn by light, as gods of darkness they worship. Drows escape into underdark below Madritor and high elves return to their remaining settlements, but the elves who had fought most during the war, followers of land, were left with nothing but the ruins of their ancestors ' world. Attempts were made to rejuvenate ruins, and those that stay would come to be known as wood elves. Among followers of land, many groups leave those regions in forest to find new homes. These include snow elves of north, sea elves of west, sand elves of southeast and, eventually, elves that we know now as sky elves.
