Concept art has been posted revealing Magnamalo, flagship Monster in the upcoming Monster Hunter Rise. The latest game in the series was revealed on Nintendo Direct last week; it will be a Switch exclusive along with Monster Hunter Stories 2, which was announced at the same time. Rise will be the second mainline Monster Hunter game to appear on Switch, and the first one to be exclusive to Nintendo's hybrid console. Capcom is doing a lot to set Monster Hunter Rise apart from its predecessor, and that's likely to best. Monster Hunter: World was a tremendous shift for the franchise, breathing new life into the franchise by massively changing the formula of the game and taking huge strides to make it more accessible for new fans. Results speak for themselves; game was a huge success, and currently holds the position of prestige as Capcom's highest-selling game ever. After a game like that, Monster Hunter Rise has a lot to live up to. It shows off its plan for filling Monster Hunter: World's shoes during aforementioned Direct, showcasing an adorable new dog companion, tool called Wirebug that functions similarly to a grappling hook, and terrifying new flagship Monster name Magnamalo. Fans got a closer look at Magnamalo today, courtesy of Monster Hunter's Twitter page. The account posted two photos from Magnamalo's concept art, including a full-body shot and a closeup. The creature is truly imposing. It holds itself like a big cat, but it has scale back of a crocodile, and two wickedly sharp blades emerging from its wrists. Menacing purple flames spew from its mouth. Even from still piece of concept art, it's obvious that Magnamalo will pose a serious threat to hunters in several different ways. Check out the concept art below. Monster Hunter games would be nothing without monsters to hunt, and the series has consistently delivered excellent and memorable creature designs. There are plenty of standouts, like the iconic dragon Monster Rathalos, but over years, roster has swollen with more and more intimidating and fearsome foes. Standing out in such a crowd isn't easy, but Magnamalo looks more than capable of providing a challenge no Hunter will ever forget. Capcom has a lot to drum up excitement for its new game, and it show, especially in the design of Magnamalo. The developer is even packaging this fearsome beast as an Amiibo with the collector's edition of the game, so players who are especially excited about Monster can look forward to displaying it proudly on their shelves when the game launch. Details about how this creature will fare in combat are still slim, but players should expect struggle when Monster Hunter Rise launches on March 26 2021. When youre back in Astera, youll have a chat with the Field Team Leader, who will express a desire to investigate anything concerning Zorah Magdaros, including whatever upset Pukei-Pukei. Unfortunately, angry Pukei-Pukei is too dangerous to expose researchers too, and it dwells rather deep in the Ancient Forest. To secure the area, youll need to get rid of monsters in the area and expand the commissions operational reach in Ancient Forest, both of which can be facilitated by setting up another Camp in Ancient Forest. Before rushing off on your next assignment, there is more to see and do in Astera, so let's take care of that real quick. First chat with Commander to get rid of his exclamation point then head northwest to find Smart Biologist north of Asteras western gate. Hell talk to you about capturing monsters, which is beneficial to researchers, promising greater rewards for feat plus, capturing Monster will shorten fight somewhat. To capture monsters, youll need to trap them, and hit them with Tranq Item. Traps come in different forms, chiefly Pitfall Traps and Shock Traps, as do Tranq Items, which include Tranq Bombs and Tranq Knives. You wo be capturing any monsters quite yet, so just be aware of it, and mechanics will be cover in detail later, when materials are more readily available. Finally, talk to Provisions Manager, who is southeast of Smart Biologist, north of Provisions Stockpile. Shell largely reiterates what you already know, telling you that youll need to establish a camp, and chase off any nearby monsters before introducing you to a new feature: Bounties. Bounties are form of ongoing Quest that youll complete as you do other tasks. Usually Bounties charge you with killing a specific number of certain Monster, or recovering a set number of materials. There are three types of Bounties, Register Bounties, Critical Bounties, and Limited Bounties. Registered Bounties are your normal fare, with objectives as mentioned above. You can register for up to six at once, and unregistered Bounties will not have their progress track, although Bounties that task you with turning in specific items can be completed any time so long as you possess requisite items. Critical Bounties are high priority bounties, usually given as part of the main questline. Limited Bounties are time, online bounties. You do not have to Register Critical Bounties or Limited Bounties. You also have Investigations, which function like Optional Quests, but sometimes with different conditions. They must be Register, but you can have up to fifty of them active at once, so it is not much of a limitation, but like Quests, you can only pursue them one at a time. Once registered, you can actually embark on them via Quest Board, where theyll appear under the Investigations tab. Each investigation can be repeated set number of times, as denoted under Left category in the Manage Investigations tab.
When youve locate Great Jagras, there is little left to do but engage beast. As the first large monster in Monster Hunter World, it is reasonably also weakest, weak enough that you can probably just tactlessly hack your way to victory, but some finesse will serve to make things easier, and it is wise to start building up good habits early. Later, monsters will tolerate mistakes like the Great Jagras will. The ideal spot to engage in Great Jagras is in AREA 1, as it is relatively open, large AREA without too many distractions, and you can quickly harvest Vitality plants, which will instantaneously heal you. It doesnt matter too much where you engage, however, as Great Jagras will almost certainly flee to its lair in AREA 2 when pressure. Most monsters will withdraw periodically during combat, and for various reasons. Some seek safety of their lair to recuperate, or because terrain favors them, while others will move around more indiscriminately, hoping to draw other monsters into the fray. If your Scoutfly level isnt high enough, you may have to delay encounter to search for more tracks, but if youre diligent about boosting your Scoutfly level before you engage first time, you shouldnt have to bother with this later. This is also a good time to heal up, sharpen your weapon, and perhaps grab a few handy materials lying around. Dont take too long, however, as the beast may recover if it allowed too much time for itself. Great Jagras lair add another complication to the battle-Lesser Jagras, which will both help Great Jagras in its fight, and provide it with snack, in a pinch. Generally, Great Jagras are dynamic enough of foe to cause too much trouble, however, allowing you to kill or drive off their subordinates. It may also eat other meals before or during a fight, which will increase its power. Dealing enough damage to it-especially by attacking its distended stomach-may cause it to regurgitate its meal. While it can be wound by striking almost anywhere, head and stomach are especially vulnerable, as are, to a lesser degree, its front limbs, all of which are breakable. While it is unlikely you have much of way to affect this, it is weak to all status ailments, fire element damage, and to a lesser degree, thunder and ice damage. It is strong against water damage. Defeat and carve Great Jagras, after which assignment will automatically end. In scenes that follow, Handler will discover some signs of another Monster at large in AREA, bird-like Pukei-Pukei, which seems agitated agitation possibly caused by the arrival of Zorah Magdaros. This time, however, Field Team Leader will suggest withdrawal, rather than encourage you to fight yet another large monster.
Concept art is always cool to look at, but unfortunately, not everything in concept stage is going to make it into the final product. Such was the case for this piece of concept art from Hunter's Encyclopedia, official art book only available in Japan. This concept art is for a monster called Gaia Dragon, or Earth Dragon, and was apparently planned to be able to change weather patterns around it. It certainly has a cool design and it's shame we haven't gotten to see it in games, but there's always chance we'll see it in future title.
Apex monsters of the Ancient Forest are Rathalos and Nargacuga. Many resources can be gathered from this location. Vines can be used to trap monsters, leaving them open to attacks. Some of plants in this area can be used as weapons. This area is similar in ways to the Jurassic Frontier as they both contain prehistoric plants such as ferns, horsetails, cycads, tree ferns, Araucaria, as well as large, massive Tree. Rain is commonplace in the Ancient Forest, water usually accumulates in upper areas, which can be used by hunters to forcefully push monsters into lower levels. The Ancient Tree, landmark at the center of the Ancient Forest, grew to a massive size from bioenergy of dead Elder Dragons nurturing it.
