List of Pretty Little Liars episodes

Last night season 5 finale of Pretty Little Liars, identity of Big was revealed to be someone named Charles. According to some old home videos that Spencer find, it certainly seems that Charles is yet another son of Mrs. DiLaurentis, and therefore brother to Ali and Jasonnot, to mention potential half brother to Spencer. Also revealed in hour: Mona is alive and well. That is, if you consider being trapped in a real-life dollhouse to be well. I wouldnt rule that out, because this show has been that since the beginning. Look who Alison was when we started 120 episodes ago. Would you ever empathize with this girl on any level? I hope weve done our job to make you go, You know what? Things are not what they seem. In this town, things are not what they seem. So even with Alison, I think she is living proof in this series that you might empathize with the least likely person. They feel infinite, dont they? That is where I go back to fiercely intelligent and devious, because ability to amass this kind ofI dont want to say arsenal because that is a terrible word, but it is arsenal in a sense because these people had a lot of time on their hands to figure out how to carry out such intricate plot against all of these girls. I would say this person is very resourceful, but their intelligence is what is behind it. Their intelligence and their ability to harness what is available to them through technology. Oh my God, they live in Rosewood, theyre freaks! Anyone who stays in this town after whats go on to these girls, now that it has become newsand all parents know after last night, anyone who stays in Rosewood and doesnt find a passport theyre certifiable. I would say there is something in the water, definitely. This town has so many twisted secrets, and youre going to be treated to more when we come back in season 6.

Reception

Let's be honest, Pretty Little Liars has a lot of audience goodwill at this point. Whether its red herrings, actually-compelling dead ends before theyre revealed as dead ends or the deaths of fan-favourite characters, there has been a lot of disappointment for the average PLL watcher over the last couple of years. But then theres prospect of an end date has now been set two and half seasons from Through Glass, Darkly, and that clarity permeate even the silliest moments of this winter premiere. We will, at some point soon, find out who is, and well also presumably uncover what the heck is going on in Alison's head. Having an end date on a show like this, as lose proved, not only quells fears of an ever-frustrated audience, but it also gives writers much more freedom to go forwards with plot and character development-two things that were noticeably stagnating. So this episode needs to be a statement of intent more than anything, and there were definitely elements of that. Alison has been arrested for her supposed crimes, for one, making it only a matter of time before she is cleared of charges and Liars ' attention can turn to someone less ubiquitous, and girls are quite literally contemplating their futures after the ordeal is over. The timeline on PLL has been kept deliberately, hilariously vague up until now, but were finally seeing Liars talk about college. Will they ever be able to make their way out of Rosewood, or are they going to be perpetually stuck in town due to outside interference? I kind of liked Arias suspicion over her mass rejection from colleges, for example, even if there are a million better ways to use Caleb than in scene with Aria. Just look at some of the older characters, like Jason or other members of NAT club-theyre still as mixed up in things as anyone, so there is no guarantee that Aria, Hanna, Spencer and Emily will be any different. In a lot of ways, Tobys is the smart one in this equation for becoming a cop-getting deeper into mystery before he can dig himself and those he cares about out of it. As much as I enjoy it when characters like Spencer, Hanna or formerly Mona cut through mounting nonsense and figure out what is really going on, it is sometimes even more satisfying when guys start talking sense and helping out. One person who do get heck out of Rosewood this week was Paige. 'll be honest, 've historically had as little interest in Emily's love life as I do in Emily herself, but that scene was so beautifully written and played by actresses that, for one moment, I understood the appeal of this couple. Even more than that, I felt truth in what Paige was saying-that past four and half years had made her doubt whether thered actually be anything left once girls were no longer fighting.

Events of last weeks Pretty Little Liars fifth Season premiere promise us so much-clean slate, return of Alison, Monas army of misfits and a fresh take on girls friendship now that theyre five-piece again. This second episode delivers on much of that promise, even if long-time fans are still having a hard time dealing with both last year's events and the prospect of three more seasons, and thus actually manage to be interesting again after years of empty promises and endless teasing. When the show first start, it felt like it was about more than surface mystery. It was about the paranoia of modern tech-ridden high school life, first and foremost, and had an edge to it that we hadnt really seen elsewhere-especially on ABC Family. That edge is probably why it has been so successful, but recent seasons have seen mystery take over at the expense of characters, relationships and larger thematic clarity. We complain about lack of answers, but the show is arguably at its best when it isnt trying to resolve its mystery at all. It has always worked better than concept than person, and it was the presence of that seemingly omnipotent force that gave the series scope to explore other things. Death of last week, at least for now, is probably the best decision the show has ever made bar making Ezra the villain of the story, and that almost definitely means that we are in store for yet another retread. I have hope, however, that this is indeed a new era for the show-one that gets back to its roots and makes Rosewood genuinely scary again. The biggest threat to girls is once again just an unbalanced high school outcast angry at mean girls for excluding her and, as Mona mentions in that final scene with Alison, she doesnt have to hide anymore. Nerds won, essentially, and now it bullys turn to live in fear. This sort of biting commentary on teenage girl relationships is something I didnt even realise was missing until now but, inherent stupidity of Pretty Little Liars aside, idea of Alison coming back home after being subject to the same torment she gleefully enacts on others is pretty fascinating stuff. Of course, Rosewood will never be safe even without around, and it was Jason who became suspect 1 this week. Like Toby and Ezra before him, Jason has always just been around, slightly sketchy but giving pass just because others were above him on the threat list. Fingers currently pointed at him pretty much takes him off of the list completely, but my hope is for the show to finally delve into NAT club stuff again. Melissas back in town and Wren got mentioned this week, so why not? It last un-exhaust thread, and one that there is currently lots of room to explore.

With their fifth wheel back in Rosewood, Liars are feeling pressure to once again concede to Ali's demands and follow along with her lie. As in lie that Ali tell Holbrook about being kidnap, held hostage for two years, and then escaping via her four besties to shed in the woods. For some reason, Emily, Spencer, Aria and Hanna just can't figure out how to say no to Ali. Can anyone blame Spence for trying to escape her reality? I mean her dad had an affair with a neighbor and then killed her.

Hanna and Travis are in Hanna's backyard working on a school presentation late at night. Travis notices Hanna is distracted and tries to reassure her that there is no rule which state she has to walk to school tomorrow with Alison. Hanna say that even though it is not written down, it is understood. Hanna believes everyone will think Liars are Alison's puppets when they walk into school together. Travis assures her that people know who she is, but Hanna tells him that lately she herself does not know who she is. Aria and Ezra are walking through the streets of Rosewood, when Ezra asks if Aria is still having nightmares of Shana. Aria tells him that she sees Shana everyone and is being haunted by her. Ezra tells her he believes that this is not about Shana, and that Aria is doing this to herself. Ezra tells Aria that he wishes he could fix this for her, and she starts to caress the side of his face before quickly stopping upon realising what she was doing. Continuing their walk, Aria mentions that she keep waiting for a text with a photo of her standing over Shana's dead body, and Ezra reminds her there is no such photo. They are both surprised when they spot Alison leaning into the body of car. When Aria calls out to her, car drives away and Alison walks over to them, asking if they're on a date, to which they tell her no. Aria asks Alison who she was talking to and Alison explains that her dad left her enrollment forms on his desk at work, and he's stuck on phone call at home, so his flunky drops her off. The bus rolls to a stop across the street, and when the bus drives away, Alison, Aria and Ezra come face to face with Jenna. In Hastings kitchen, Toby asks Spencer if she wants him to talk with her dad, and Spencer informs him that Peter is avoiding her. Toby asks if Alison knows what Peter did to Jessica, and Spencer tells him she cannot tell Alison until she is absolutely certain that Peter killed Jessica. Toby tells her that he finds it hard to picture Alison as a victim, and Spencer says that she seems genuine when she says that what she's been through changed her. Spencer mentions that she does not know the truth because she hasn't been told details. Toby tells her it's okay to close the door on toxic people. Toby's phone starts suddenly ringing-it's Jenna-and he tells Spencer he hasn't talked with her since she moved to New York. After ending the call, Toby tells Spencer that Shana is dead and it's believed to be murder. Five Liars are in Aria's living room discussing Jenna's return. Emily thinks Spencer cannot tell Toby about what happened in New York, but Aria tells her that she can tell him if she want, and it's up to her, not Alison.

Since the return of Pretty Little Liars ' ubiquitous villain, hasnt really had to do much stirring of pot. Girls, now with the addition of the ultimate catalyst for drama, Alison, have been doing a decent enough job of fracturing their previously unbreakable bond all by themselves, and add threat of a brand new adversary is just cherry on top of stress cupcake. Hanna is faring worst, what with the sign-post drinking problem and beef with Alison. Calebs are back in town and it has taken a pleasingly small amount of time for Haleb to resume, but the Hannas identity crisis is in full swing nonetheless. She was member of the group who probably changed most-first into Monas Alison-substitute and then into an older, more confident version of herself-and Alison's attempts to control her when it comes to Caleb really didnt go down well. This season has a really good job of balancing out old, queen bee Ali with a new, needy and traumatised victim. Shes apparently become, to the point where it is hard to tell if shes being genuine with Emily or if she shes just back to her manipulative ways. She is smart enough to know that she needs an ally, and Emilys affection for her makes her the easiest target. Spencer is too suspicious, Hanna too resentful and Aria-well who knows with Aria-Emily was her only option. Speaking of Aria, she may have been personality-vacuum for the last four seasons, but this year has seen her actually get in on mystery-solving at last. Seeing her sort through clues and obsess with Spencer was so weird I had to double-check, but it was definitely an improvement on the alternative. We all know that, unfortunately, Ezria is the endgame and theyll have to get back together at some point, but seeing her stick by her no-more-slips decision means that both characters can do something little more interesting. This is the best Ezra has been since his Big Arc, but then sharing scenes with Spencer makes everyone better. Theyre both meticulous, obsessive puzzle-solvers-two sides of disturbing coin-and seeing that address was wonderfully fascinating. Depending on your tastes, they are two of the best characters on the show, providing writers care enough to make them that way. Spencer is invariably entertaining and consistent in her quirks, but were in a strange place with Ezra right now. Does the show want us to see him as the romantic lead, creepy stalker or obsessive investigator? I dont know anymore, but the version of him we saw this week was definitely my favourite. Pulling him away from Aria was first good decision, making me think having him integrate into the main group wouldnt be the worst thing, as long as they remember to keep calling him out on his shit. This antagonistic pairing, like the equally intriguing one between Alison and Caleb saw this week, is far more interesting than any of the romances going on right now.
