The European SMART-1 mission to the Moon, mostly a testbed for cutting-edge modern technologies, was launched in September 2003 and will reach the Moon in 2005. Considering the capabilities of the SMART-1 mission and the SIR instrument particularly, in addition to the open questions in lunar science, a choice of targets for SIR observations has been assembled. Since the specific arrival date and the orbital parameters of the SMART-1 spacecraft are not recognized yet, a more in-depth preparation of the scientific observations will comply with in the close to future.
