LILLY WEBBER WRITES-While Japanese animation has become popular in mainstream American culture and internationally as result of the rising accessibility of Anime, this has not always been the case. Due to previous lack of access to options for watching Anime in America, purchasing bootleg VHSs from local flea markets or recognizing XYZ Anime Title as YouTube search result is common experience for many older fans of Anime. Anime only started becoming popular in mainstream American culture in the 1990s when American distributors began importing wildly popular Japanese series such as Sailor Moon, Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z. However, if certain animations were popular enough to be dubbed in English, where they were typically restricted to airing only on late-night television channels like Cartoon Networks Toonami, option to legally watch such animations was difficult without relying on pirated sources. For these reasons, dedicated fans would often pirate Japanese animations from online sources and fan-translate their favorite animations. Then fansubbers would redistribute translated products either for profit or as a hobby. However, despite the plethora of legal streaming options now available for fans to watch their favorite Animations, piracy still remains a major problem. Fans of Anime will often turn to pirated sources due to both subscription costs and the fact that some shows are either not licensed for distribution through media service websites or are not simulcast. Simulcasting, or simultaneous broadcasting, refers to shows licensed by streaming platforms, with subtitles, and air within 24 hours of airtime on television in Japan. Simulcasts are highly popular as a way to combat piracy; as fans are often willing to watch new episodes from the earliest provider possible, regardless of translation quality or legality. In addition, series are typically turned over exclusively to their licensed distributors, resulting in hefty costs for fans who wish to GO legal way in watching series which are exclusively licensed by separate streaming services. Netflix, one of the original pioneers in online streaming-on-demand media providers, has also co-produce and invested in several massively popular original titles, like Aggretsuko, Devilman Crybaby and Castlevania. When it comes to ongoing Animations airing weekly on Japanese television and even on Netflixs own Japanese server, though, compared to most animation streaming sites Crunchyroll, Funimation, Netflix falls flat, as companies do not simulcast ongoing Animations internationally, which is considered industry standard. Rather, shows licensed by company are frequently added to international Netflix servers several months after initial animation finishes airing. While this strategy may allow time for Netflix to translate content into several languages and prepare marketing campaigns, it has inadvertently been harmful, causing several highly promising Animations to flop within the US market. One example is 2018 award-winning studio Kyoto Animations Anime Violet Evergarden. The series was streamed internationally on a weekly basis during the Winter 2018 Anime Season, except in the United States of America and Australia, where animation was made available only after the final episode was broadcast.

In Japan in the Taisho era, group of Maidens protected Tokyo As Imperial Combat Revue, doubling as both stage performers and pilots of Steampunk Mecha called Koubu. 14 years later, New Imperial Combat Revue has been formed to carry on that tradition. Lead this time by Sakura Amamiya, team performs on stage and then is joined by a new junior member: Klara, only Survivor of the recently-obliterate Moscow Combat Revue. She's lost her memories and was being actively pursued by two parties when recovered by Seijuro, so they will have to both protect her and give her a sense of family to help her recover. And protecting comes quickly After when horde of demons attack. Sakura Wars Animation is most directly based on PS4 games and streams on Funimation at 10 am EDT on Fridays. The Sakura Wars franchise combines a number of my great loves musical theater, Steampunk robots, Anime, pretty girls decked out in fancy costumes of early 20th century. So it's shame that so much of the franchise has been locked off from Western audiences for so long. I have never seen original anime or OVAs, though I do manage to get my hands on one PS2 title in franchise that was localized for the US, Sakura Wars: So Long My Love, and I really enjoy it. So I was very eager to check out Sakura Wars: Animation, though it has several disadvantages going in. You see, this New Sakura Wars Anime is a sequel to the New Sakura Wars game, which is coming out in the West, but not until the end of April. In other words, this anime is a sequel to an unreleased video game that is a soft-reboot to mostly untranslated game franchise and its One Anime series from twenty years ago. So, how does the premiere of Sakura Wars: Animation hold up for neophyte like me? Surprisingly well, as it turns out. I suppose the very existence of this show is bind to spoil some things for video games I absolutely intend on playing, but I'm fine with that, and I pick up on the basics just fine: series has transition to the 1940s, and the New Imperial Combat Revue is going strong in their fight against all manner of Evil demons, and they put on some snazzy musical productions in their spare Time While they're At It. There are a bunch of different girls whose personalities are admittedly very one dimensional here, but fans of the most recent game will likely greet them all like old friends. The new character is Klara, who's get mysterious past and some very inconvenient amnesia that is related to all of demon shenanigans going on lately, and ladies of ICR will have to do battle with their steam-powered Kobou machines to uncover the truth.

Kakushigoto

Kouji Kumeta is the writer and original creator of the popular series Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei that received numerous adaptations by studio SHAFT and is one of their most popular anime:s Kakushigoto takes a lot from Zetsubou Sensei, especially if you look at AT drawings and character designs of both series. Ill admit that I was hoping for another adaptation by studio SHAFT considering the stunning PV they produced in 2016 to celebrate the release of the first tankobon, but nevermind, itd still be interesting to see another work by Kumeta adapt. Talking about the staff behind anime, we have studio Ajia-Do that recently produced Ascendance of Bookworm, How not to Summon Demon Lord Director Yuuta Murano and music is produced by SHAFT affectionate Yukari Hashimato, creator of OST of 3-gatsu no Lion. The real surprise comes when looking AT voice actors: Hiroshi Kamiya will play father Kakushi Gotou while Rie Takahashi will be daughter Hime Gotou.
