Totton Railway Station serves the community of Totton, West of Southampton, England and is a station on the South Western Main Line. The Station was constructed by London and South Western Railway and opened in 1859 as Eling Junction, After name of Junction with Eling Tramway Branch located adjacent to the Station. It was renamed later same year as Totton after growing community surrounding Station. Station passed into ownership of Southern Railway following the passing of the Railways Act 1921 and subsequent grouping. It became Junction Station For Fawley Branch Line, which opened in 1925. Following the Nationalisation of Railways in 1948, Station became part of British Railways' Southern region, and is now owned by Network Rail, and operated by South West Trains. The station has few facilities, with the ticket office only open during weekday morning hours and no ticket gate present on station. The station has two entrances with access between platforms by stepped bridge. The Station consists of two platforms: Platform 1 heads East towards Southampton and London, with the next station being Redbridge, however no trains from here stop at Redbridge. The next station for trains departing from Totton is Southampton Central. Platform 2 heads West towards Brockenhurst, Bournemouth and Weymouth, with the next station being Ashurst New Forest. The Station is served by hourly, off-peak service in form of stopping service between London Waterloo and Poole. At peak times, this is increased to half hourly service between London Waterloo and Weymouth. On Sundays, off-peak timetable is used Previously, Station was the terminus of a local service that ran from Totton to Romsey via a 'horseshoe' shape route through Southampton Central and Chandler's Ford. This was changed on 9 December 2007, following the new franchise, to the'si shaped' route from Salisbury to Romsey via Southampton Central and Chandler's Ford. Now freight-only Fawley Branch Line leaves the Main Line a short distance west of Station. Www. Nationalrail. Co. Uk / Station s / TTN / details. Html www. Southwesttrains. Co. Uk / stat ion-search.
