For years, he had cryptically alluded to Hollywood players who he alleged had sexually abused him and his best friend, fellow actor Corey Haim, when the two were boys. Now, 10 years after Haim's death, Feldman was ready to publicly call OUT alleged predators in a documentary called MY Truth: Rape OF 2 Coreys. FILM, Feldman say, had been rejected by traditional theatrical distributors. So he decided to release it in an unconventional fashion, setting up a website where FILM would be available for streaming to anyone who paid 20 on Monday evening. At the same time, 48-year-old would host an industry premiere on behalf of a documentary at Directors Guild OF Americas headquarters in Los Angeles. But at 8 PM Monday, when FILM was supposed to begin streaming online, paying customers were met with an error message. Realizing the website was down, Feldman decided to halt screening at DGA after 10 minutes until technical issues were resolve. But they never were. Id love to say this was all big act, but it was not. It real, Feldman told the crowd inside the theater where he and his team stood on stage, frantically trying to figure OUT how to proceed. In the projection room, one OF the film producers was on the phone with the digital provider, trying to figure OUT why the FILM wasnt streaming. Feldman asked his producer to amplify phone calls through a loudspeaker so that the audience could hear technicians describe how servers had been attacked numerous times by hackers. As he mulled his options, room began to grow restless, and Rosanna Arquette, who was seated alongside the likes of Patricia Richardson, Dave Navarro, Chris Kattan and Jamie Kennedy, urged him to move forward with screening. Rosanna Arquette said " We gotta do it, Feldman say. I want you all to back me when I GET sue. While online screening was ultimately canceled, one at DGA continue. Early Tuesday morning, Feldman was already apologizing for the failed online event and pointing fingers in an all-caps update on Twitter: I GIV U MY PERSONAL GUARANTEE that EVERYONE WILL GET 2 C FILM! EVEN IF I HAVTA DVDS & SEND THEM 2 EACH OF U! NOTHING WILL KEEP MYTRUTHDOC FROM COMING OUT! This IS INSANE! PLEASE PRAY 4 US! In the movie, Feldman discloses details about sexual abuse he says he suffered as a child. He also alleges that Haim faced similar abuse, most notably at the hands of actor Charlie Sheen. Haim was 13 when he met Sheen, who was 19 at time, on the set of the 1985 FILM Lucas. This wasnt like a one-time thing said in passing. It wasnt like, Oh, by way, this happen. He goes into great detail, Feldman says in the movie. He told me, Charlie bent me over in between two trailers and put Crisco oil on MY butt and rapped me in broad daylight.

Notes

Late in the movie Truth, former 60 Minutes Wednesday producer Mary Mapes offers a Big Speech about the state of journalism, decrying the fact that all that people want to read or watch on television these days is conspiracy theories. The irony apparently lost on her is that she made this charge while she herself was in the midst of presenting a conspiracy theory. The film concerns 60 Minutes's 2004 pre-election report on George W. Bushs service in the Texas Air National Guard. Two documents central to news programs contention that Bush was granted preferential treatment were subsequently revealed to be almost certainly fraudulent. This error ultimately resulted in the retirement from CBS of Dan Rather and the firing of Mapes and others. Its in the midst of her conspiracy theory speech that the map suggests that fraudulent documents were cunning ploy by pro-Bush forcesimmaculately, sophisticate in some respects, but childishly certain to be recognized as fake in othersintended, to discredit further reporting into his military record. Could this be true? Stranger things have happen, I suppose. But it is pretty much the definition of conspiracy theory. What is striking about the film is the degree to which it lauds Mapes and her colleagues most emphatically precisely when they are displaying their worst journalistic judgment. In many conflicts between this crew and their CBS supervisors over whether they do due diligence or at what point correction might be appropriate, truth clearly intends that we side with the former, despite the fact that the latter consistently offers a far stronger case. This is perhaps never clearer than when Lyon character cuts down Graces with a perfect slice of Occams Razor: It's not that you guys fuck up the story. No, it was conspiracy. The script, as will surprise no one who made it this far, is based on memoir by Mapes herself, Press, President, and Privilege of Power. Its worth noting here that map does tremendous work in her career, in particular her Abu Ghraib reporting, which, in cruel twist, won a Peabody award after her defenestration at CBS. What is particularly disappointing about Truth is that writer-director Vanderbilt was also responsible for the script for Zodiac, one of the most underrated films of the last decade. That film, directed by David Fincher, was tremendously savvy about journalism, detective work, and the role of uncertainty. Here, by contrast, in his directorial debut, Vanderbilt loudly and explicitly picks sideand, crucially, wrong one. The clear model for the movie is Michael Manns Insider, another exceptional film not only about journalism but about 60 Minutes specifically. The problem is that the story Manns film tells displays all the qualities of genuine journalistic triumph: reportorial diligence; high-level whistleblower; perseverance in face of explicit corporate pressure to spike the story. In place of these attributes, truth can only offer: admittedly rush, insufficiently verified scoop; politically motivated crank offering documents of dubious origin; and entirely hypothetical conspiracy.
