Just as Apple is getting ready to announce its streaming service, complete with original programming, another tech giant is preparing to bow out. According to Bloomberg, YouTube is canceling many of its Hollywood-quality shows and plans to pull out of producing most of its original content for its YouTube Premium subscription service. Shows like sci-fi thriller Origin and comedy Series Overthinking with Kat & June are said to be among those being cancelled by YouTube. YouTube is looking to renew at least one of its most popular hit shows, however. The company is currently in negotiations for the third season of its Karate Kid-base TV Series, Cobra Kai. Premium Series content that exists on YouTube will also soon no longer require paid subscription. Google-own company, announced in November that it would eventually move its existing library of Shows to its Free platform. Even after launching its ad-Free YouTube Premium subscription service last May, YouTube has seemingly been doubling-down on its ad-support model. The company has experimented with new ad formats over the past year and even doubled down on Free Premium content when it launched the Free to watch section on its pay Moves & Show vertical. The video platform doesnt look to be giving up on its subscription service as a whole. YouTube Premium still provides users with an ad-Free YouTube experience. The video platforms also run a subscription-base music service, YouTube Music, which was basically a spin off of the company's original subscription model, YouTube Red. YouTube's real pay push going forward is likely its YouTube TV service. The company has heavily promoted its live TV service over the past few months, as cord cutting becomes increasingly popular. The Service currently offers more than 60 channels to the top 100 US television markets and unlimited DVR without need for cable subscription. YouTube charges $40 for service as oppose to $11. 99 for YouTube Premium and doesn't need to take risks on financing expensive TV productions. The video streaming service market has become an extremely competitive market. Apple is set to announce its own video streaming service, complete with its own original content. Disney is readying launch its own streaming service, Disney +, with its library of classic family films as well as original series based on its Star Wars and Marvel characters. In order to hold its top spots in the industry, Netflix and Amazon Prime are committed to creating even more big-budget original content for its subscription services. Give timing, it is still especially interesting to see YouTube and, along with it, Google, scrap its efforts to compete in the video streaming space.

Step Up spin-off series Step Up: High Water is officially coming back for a third Season-nearly year after it was cancelled by Original broadcaster YouTube. The Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-produce series premiered on YouTube Premium as one of the service's first Originals, and it originally aired for two seasons before YouTube cancelled the show in August 2019 as it moved away from Original, scripted programming. Jump forward a few months to today, however, and it's been confirmed that Step Up: High Water will be Back after all, with STARZ picking Up series for a third Season. The new Season will consist of 10 episodes, and will bring back several characters from the show's first two series, including Ne-Yo as Sage Odom, founder of famed High Water Performing Arts School, and Glee star Naya Rivera as his partner Collette. The latest instalment of Step Up not only reimagines the entire franchise but is filled with high energy, lots of heart and electrifying dance moves, and we're very excited to reunite talented cast and creative teams for another great Season, said Lionsgate Television Group Chairman Kevin Beggs. This collaboration underscores our ability to work successfully across our businesses to supply Premium Content to STARZ. Alongside Ne-Yo and Rivera, other stars set to return for the new third Season are Petrice Jones, Faizon Love, Marcus Mitchell, Jade Chynoweth, Carlito Olivero, Terrence Green, Eric Graise and Kendra Oyesanya. Lucifer star Tricia Helfer is also set to join the cast as a new character named Erin. The series, created by Holly Sorensen, will now be known as Step Up and the first two seasons of the show will be made available on STARZ sometime before Season 3 premieres. Holly and her team have created a new and dynamic iteration of series that capture the hallmarks that have made Step Up franchise so successful and elevate storytelling for a premium, global audience, says STARZ's head of Originals Christina Davis. This, coupled with the worldwide appeal of a multitalented, multicultural cast, will make this series a great addition to our slate. Television is an ever-expanding medium, with seemingly no limit to the number of places where new and exciting Series are being develop. One such outlet is YouTube Red, which is making a bigger push into more noteworthy scripted dramas, and the studio's latest release is the time-traveling sci-fi thriller LIfeline. Starring Friday Night Lights vet Zach Gilford and boasting Dwayne Rock Johnson as producer, LIfeline is make-for-popcorn TV that feels like an elongate 1990s iteration of Black Mirror or Twilight Zone episode, offering a fun and intriguing twist on a slightly familiar narrative. LIfeline kicks off in the most refreshing manner, immediately taking audiences right to the simple hook for this mildly technical story set in the not-so-distant future. Zach Gilford plays Conner Hooks, specially qualified agent for a life insurance company like no other. You see, LIfeline is a very hush-hush enterprise that showcases an insanely dependable ability to predict when its clients are going to die, 33 days in the future. And so agents like Conner are sent to the future in order to save clients from meeting too-soon fates. Conner is romantically involved with a fellow agent named Haley, played by Silicon Valley's Amanda Crew, and they have quite an interesting relationship, as one might imagine. After all, Conner and Haley are jumping forward 33 days for each job they take, which means they're essentially aging at a slower pace than other people, and aren't always on the same wavelength. Think-provoking ramifications of this are hinted at early on, but I'm hoping for expanded focus in later episodes. LIfeline is run by Veep and Series of Unfortunate Events stars Usman Ally, who straddles the line between being nefarious head of an evil organization and protective keeper of priceless artifact. Working beneath him is Lilan Bowden's Jasmine, new recruit just learning ropes of business. I have to say that LIfeline wins points for wasting zero time setting things up. After the initial lay of land is introduce, viewers watch as always successful Conner gets entangled with a job that not only seems like it was meant to ruin him, but also one that hints at there being mysterious characters outside the central group we'd already meet. And I definitely want to find out everything about all of it, even if I'm still not entirely convinced I'll be gung ho throughout the rest of the eight-episode season. Such is often the case with timey-wimey projects like this. Beyond comparisons to sci-fi anthologies across decades, LIfeline also shares some similarities with Minority Report-with this show already inspiring more excitement than the poorly received TV remake of Steven Spielberg's aforementioned precrime-ridden thriller. Not to mention other timeline-hopping efforts like Looper and Quantum Leap, among others.
